Italian journalist Nicolò Schira has reported that Serie A club Bologna are in talks to sign Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller. According to Schira, the Italian side has offered Miller a contract running until 2029, with an option for an additional year until 2030.
The report comes amid increasing interest in Miller following his fantastic season with Motherwell. The 18-year-old made 34 Premiership appearances during the 2024/25 campaign and has become a regular starter under multiple managers.
No official comment has been made by Motherwell or Bologna at the time of writing. However, Schira has previously reported accurately on transfers involving Scottish players moving to Serie A, including Aaron Hickey’s 2020 move from Hearts to Bologna.
The Steelmen Dispatch suspect there to be truth in this rumour, though we cannot confirm.

Bologna’s Scottish Connection
Bologna have established a clear track record of recruiting from the Scottish Premiership. They signed Aaron Hickey from Hearts in 2020 for a reported fee of around £1.5 million. Hickey went on to become a regular starter in Serie A before moving to Brentford for approximately £14 million.
In 2022, Bologna signed Lewis Ferguson from Aberdeen for a fee believed to be around £3 million. Ferguson has since become one of the club’s key players, captaining the side and increasing his market value before suffering an ACL injury in 2024.
Given this precedent, the club is considered a serious destination for young Scottish talent, particularly players with strong technical and tactical profiles.
Estimated Fee
If Bologna are serious about signing Miller, the fee is expected to exceed the figures paid for both Hickey and Ferguson. Miller is under contract at Fir Park until 2026, and Motherwell are not under immediate pressure to sell.
Based on recent market trends, a base fee in the region of £4million to £5million would be a realistic starting point. Performance-based add-ons and a sell-on clause would likely be included. Should a deal be completed, it should represent one of the largest transfers in Motherwell’s history.
Comparable transfers include:
Lewis Ferguson (Aberdeen to Bologna) – £3 million Josh Doig (Hibernian to Verona) – £3 million Calvin Ramsay (Aberdeen to Liverpool) – £6.5 million
Miller’s age, positional maturity, and domestic experience place him in a favourable position within this range.
Schira’s Track Record
Nicolò Schira is a journalist based in Italy with a focus on transfer news and contract details, particularly within Serie A. While not always regarded at the same tier as Fabrizio Romano or Gianluca Di Marzio, Schira has broken several accurate transfer reports over the past five years.
He was one of the first journalists to report Aaron Hickey’s move to Bologna and has provided early coverage of contract renewals and behind-the-scenes negotiations across multiple European clubs.
Though no other major outlets have confirmed the Miller news yet, Schira’s involvement lends credibility to the report.
Next Steps
At this stage, the link between Miller and Bologna should be treated as a developing story. No agreement has been finalised, and neither club has commented publicly.
However, given Bologna’s recruitment strategy, their prior success with Scottish players, and Miller’s potential, the rumour is credible. If a deal progresses, further updates are expected in the coming days as the summer window enters its final phase.
