The Steelmen Dispatch is a fiercely independent publication dedicated to capturing the spirit, soul, and stories of Motherwell Football Club. It was born from a simple frustration — that too often, the richness of our club’s identity is reduced to short match reports, recycled quotes, or fleeting attention between Old Firm headlines.
We set out to change that.
At its heart, The Steelmen Dispatch is a writing project, a design experiment, and a love letter to Motherwell — a club with working-class roots, a proud community, and a habit of doing things the hard way. We aim to reflect all of that. Through long-form articles, investigative features, visual storytelling, and printed zines, we create space for deeper, more thoughtful coverage. This is journalism that respects the intelligence and emotional depth of football fans.
We don’t chase scoops. We build stories.
Whether it’s breaking down the tactics behind a late-season resurgence, tracing the financial implications of boardroom decisions, or simply trying to put words to the feeling of watching your team scrap for every point on a freezing Tuesday night — The Steelmen Dispatch exists to give Motherwell supporters a platform that treats the club’s story with care, depth, and creativity.
What Makes Us Different
- Narrative-Led Journalism
We treat each piece like a story worth telling — shaped by structure, conflict, voice, and theme. Inspired by outlets like The Athletic and Copa90, our features aim to go deeper than the surface: exploring the why behind the what, and the feeling behind the facts. - Creative Design Meets Local Culture
From original illustrations to sticker packs and experimental zines, we’re building a visual world that honours Fir Park folklore, local dialect, and the beauty of Scottish football. Every product, print, and post is designed in-house, with love. - Rooted in the Community
This isn’t a distant media brand. It’s built from the stands, for the stands. We believe in celebrating supporters, platforming different voices, and archiving the moments that might otherwise get lost to time. - No Corporate Filters. No Paywalls.
We’re small, independent, and not here to churn out content for clicks. Every word we write and every product we make is created with purpose — not just to inform, but to connect.
Our Work
Some of the things we make:
- The Dispatch Zine — Quarterly, story-driven print publications that explore the highs, lows, and everything in between at Motherwell FC.
- Feature Articles — Long-form writing that blends tactical analysis, financial insight, and personal perspective.
- Visual Editions — From Fir Park illustrations to sticker packs and one-off prints, each design is a creative tribute to the club and its culture.
- Online Content — Articles, social media stories, and design drops to bring our community together and keep the conversation going all year round.
Why We Exist
Because Scottish football deserves more than hot takes and highlight reels.
Because there’s beauty in a crunching tackle, a daft own goal, a last-minute equaliser at Rugby Park.
Because Motherwell isn’t just a club — it’s a rhythm, a ritual, a language.
Because stories matter.
Whether you’ve been in the Cooper Stand for decades or you’re following the ‘Well from across the globe, we’re here to document the journey — with honesty, creativity, and a wee bit of Lanarkshire defiance.
The Steelmen Dispatch is created and edited by Declan Dundas, a writer, football romantic, and Motherwell supporter. You can reach him at editor@steelmendispatch.com or find him clutching a pen and a coffee somewhere between the East Stand and the past.
